PROJECT SUMMARY

PCDI is currently running a pilot Information Technology center at Ndop
in Ngo-Ketunjia division. Ngo-Ketunjia is one of the seven divisions
that make up the North West province of Cameroon
About 95 percent of the people in Ngo-ketunjia lack access to IT
services, either for learning or for communication, which further fuels
the “Vicious Cycle of Poverty”. A lack of access to IT services also
hinders the ability for youths to join the train of globalization hence
masses rural exodus to big towns without any body to assist them thereby
increasing the number of stress children.
Information Technology serves as a means to empower the poor
especially women and youths, and provides a valuable tool to assist the
economic development process. Mindful of the fact that the poorest of
the poor are found in this rural areas and women and youths are very
enterprising but they most often lack access to IT institutions because
there are very expensive, PCDI Cameroon seeks to address this problem by
soliciting and distributing computers/small IT equipment and making
available appropriate technologies to promote learning. Targeting women
and youths will therefore help to improve the level of household income
and also increase computer/IT literacy. An IT scheme of this nature
will be of great help to them since it will give room for them to
discover how/why the world is a global village.

It is in this light that PCDI Cameroon took the challenge to rekindle
hope in these infected persons, widows and the less privileged youths by
training them in computer and IT literacy for free.

Furthermore, we need capital grants and equipments to give them as loans
to settle them into their own small IT workshops after their period of
training. This will ensure sustainability.

Our greatest challenge is the need for more computers and IT equipments
for the youths to practice with to avoid them queuing up and waiting to
take turns on fewer machines donated by members.

TARGETED GROUP
PCDI Cameroon has embarked to work with the less privileged women and
youths, especially widows and orphans

EXPECTED RESULTS

At the end of the training these youths are able to set into economic
activities by being able to manage their own small IT workshops.

SUPPORT
We rely on Churches, existing Organizations and well-wishers.

BACKGROUND
The Partners for Community Development Initiative group was born out of
an initiative to foster the living standard of less privileged persons
in villages and to free them from HIV/AIDS. Members met to discuss the
plight of the youths and widows in rural areas especially orphans and
discovered that they are actually at risk because idleness can lead them
to unwanted pregnancies or HIV/AIDS. Members then decided to come up
with a policy to open an IT center for these youths and widows and after
one to four years training, funds and equipments will be soughted to
raise start up capital for them because training alone would not have
achieved the goals.

Africa is a blessed continent with immeasurable God-given resources that
could be converted into tools for poverty reduction, but many of its
people suffer from abject poverty. One aim of PCDI is to address this
human suffering by promoting sustainable development. Members noted
that aid is important but can be destructive if people develop a begging
mentality. PCDI enables people to address their own needs and to
contribute to sustainable economic development and nation building.
Members resolved that PCDI would ensure that there is no discrimination
in offering the services to youths and widows alike.

ACHIEVING SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability is the ability to continue operations even after funding
and dependency on donor ceases. Some one added that it is always good
to stress the need to research dropouts as an indicator in impact
assessment when reaching the poor.
Capital grants/equipments to be sourced will be given to them as loans
to settle them into their own workshops after their period of training.
A public computer/IT documentation and Internet cyber café will be
provided to serve the people. The income from these will ensure
sustainability of the project.

MISSION
PCDI Cameroon seeks to create a society in which every Person is
celebrating as a unique and valued creation of God and is encouraged to
fulfill his/her full potentials.

OBJECTIVES

-Bridge the digital gap between the youths in rural areas by soliciting
and distributing computers/small IT equipment and making available
appropriate technologies to promote learning
-Create and run computer study centers to assist youths especially OVC
join the train of globalization.

Our priority needs:

1Computers both desk and laptops (from Pentium 1 and above) to be use
for training/distributed as loans to graduates.
2Printers and inks

monitors, CD and DVD writers, RJ45 connectors, TV cards, sound cards,
Network cards, motherboards and processors)
